About This Hike
This page covers the guided Blue Ice Hike on Juklavass Glacier, part of the Folgefonna glacier system in Folgefonna National Park. Meet at the guide shop at Fonna Glacier Centre, roughly 19 km and 30–40 minutes by road from Jondal. The guide adapts the 5–6 km outing to the group and daily ice conditions, moving between flatter ice and more varied crevasse terrain; allow five to six hours including equipment fitting, safety instruction and lunch. Crampons, ice axe, harness, helmet, rope and suitable boots are included by the operator. Participants should bring warm wind- and waterproof layers, gloves, food, drink, sunglasses, sun protection and a backpack with room for equipment. The regular guided Blue Ice Hike is generally offered from late May through November and is normally for ages 10 and up; check the booked tour’s current requirements. The glacier must never be entered independently—hidden crevasses require a qualified guide and rope safety.

Getting There
Meet at the guide shop at Fonna Glacier Centre (Folgefonnvegen 1830), 19 km from Jondal. Allow 30–40 minutes for the toll road and arrive by the time on your booking.
Before You Go
This is a booked, guided glacier experience—not a self-guided route at the glacier centre. Reserve a specific Blue Ice Hike, use the ticket's meeting time, and leave enough margin for the 19 km toll road from Jondal; the guide normally cannot wait for late arrivals. The group route changes with weather, snow and ice, so choose it for a five-to-six-hour guided day rather than for a guaranteed level of blue ice or technical challenge. Anyone under 10 needs a private-guide arrangement.

⚠️ Safety Notes
- The glacier has crevasses, including hidden ones, so it must only be entered with a qualified glacier guide and the supplied rope safety equipment.
- At the glacier centre, around 1,200 metres above sea level, conditions can be cold, wet and windy; bring warm, wind- and waterproof layers and gloves.
- Bring sunglasses and sun lotion: the operator advises using both even on grey days.
- Strong wind or thunderstorms with lightning can require cancellation; follow the operator’s instructions and check the booking terms if your plans are time-sensitive.
