About This Hike
Munkebu is a small Norwegian Trekking Association cabin in the mountains of Moskenesøya, reached by a marked trail from Sørvågen. The route passes lakes and steep rock sections where fixed chains or ropes assist progress, so it should not be confused with an easy cabin walk despite the clear trailhead and paid parking. Decide whether your goal is the mountain area or a booked overnight stay before setting out: the six-bed cabin is not open for day visits or drop-ins. It has no running water or electricity, at least one person in an overnight group must be a DNT member, and reservations are released only within the booking window shown by DNT. Munkebu uses its own key rather than the standard DNT cabin key; follow the access instructions supplied with the confirmed booking. Bring a sleeping bag or liner, food and equipment for an unstaffed cabin, and confirm current opening dates, weather and trail conditions before leaving Sørvågen. Reaching the cabin does not automatically make a continuation to Munken suitable—the summit extension is a separate mountain decision.

Getting There
Paid parking is available at the signed Sørvågen trailhead. Do not block local roads or assume parking is available at the cabin.

Munkebu is both a mountain hike and a booked overnight stay, so plan those parts separately. Confirm the cabin's live opening status, capacity, membership requirement and key instructions before leaving Sørvågen; then make a trail decision based on the weather and your comfort with the chain-assisted sections. Do not hike in assuming that a bed, a key or a day visit will be available.
