About This Hike

Litlefjellet (about 790–800 m) is a short Vengedalen walk in Rauma, close to Åndalsnes in Romsdalen. It is often described as delivering the most scenery for the least effort: from the signed car park at the end of the Vengedalen road, the well-established path gains about 140 metres to the plateau in 20–30 minutes. Allow roughly an hour there and back. The views take in Trollveggen, the Troll peaks, Romsdalshorn, Venjetindane, the Rauma valley and Romsdalsfjord. The hike is family-friendly for people comfortable with a short mountain path, but it is not a playground: parts of the route are steep and airy, one section has chains, and exposed cliffs run along both sides of the ridge. The summer road through Vengedalen is a toll road with card payment; it normally opens after snow clearing around late June and is not ploughed in winter. Wear shoes with good grip and keep children close near the plateau edge.

Before You Go

Litlefjellet is a compact Vengedalen outing: drive past Venjedalssetra and Venjedalsvatnet to the signed inner-valley start, then allow 20–30 minutes uphill and about an hour return. It is family-suitable only with close supervision: the path includes a chained section and the plateau has exposed cliff edges. The toll road beyond Venjedalssetra normally opens after snow clearing in late June and is not winter-ploughed.

⚠️ Safety Notes

  • The plateau has exposed cliffs on both sides of the ridge, so keep well back from the edge, especially with children.
  • A short, steep section is secured with chains and becomes slippery when wet or icy.
  • The Vengedalen toll road and upper trail can hold snow or ice outside the summer season; the road is not ploughed in winter.
