About This Hike
Marmorslottet is a sculpted marble river landscape outside Mo i Rana, where water, sand and ice have formed potholes, small caves and pale channels over thousands of years. The trail begins at the Fisktjønna parking area and covers about 1.2 kilometres each way with only 50 metres of net ascent. Those modest numbers are misleading: Visit Helgeland grades the outing difficult because the path contains steep, challenging sections that become substantially harder when wet. Signposting stops after the parking area, so carry the route map and take the left branch at the trail fork. At the formations, there are no barriers between visitors, polished rock and the strong river current. Keep children and dogs close and do not enter the water. The marble is also fragile. Remove footwear before stepping onto the pale formations to reduce wear, avoid scraping or moving stone, and carry every item of litter home. The narrow access road passes close to houses and farmyards, so drive slowly. Choose dry daylight conditions and turn back if rain makes either the trail or river edge unsuitable.

Before You Go
Marmorslottet is a short visit that needs the habits of a demanding hike: bring the route map because signs stop after the parking area, use the left fork, and turn back if rain has made the steep access or river conditions unsuitable. The site is fragile as well as unfenced. Take off footwear only when stepping onto the marble formations, keep every member of the group away from the current, and leave before the trail becomes hard to follow in low light.
