About This Hike
Steinsdalsfossen is a 50-metre waterfall just outside Norheimsund in Hardanger, around 1 hour 15 minutes by road from Bergen. It is one of the rare Norwegian falls where a path from the car park takes you behind the cascade while keeping you largely dry. Follow the riverside path, steps and footbridge up to the rear of the falls, then continue to the viewpoint on the far side for views across Norheimsund and the Steinsdalen valley. The short visit is about 0.5 kilometres and normally takes under 30 minutes; its elevation field refers to the walk, while the 50 metres is the waterfall's drop. The falls took their present course in 1699 and remain a favourite stop along Norwegian Scenic Route Hardanger. There is parking by route 7, plus a café and tourist information nearby; lower viewing areas are suitable for visitors using wheelchairs, canes or strollers.

Before You Go
This is a very short waterfall visit, not a 50-metre ascent: the 50 metres refers to the cascade's drop. The rear path starts at the car park and can be wet or icy; use the lower accessible viewing area if the steps are unsuitable. A separate 2.5 km one-way walk to Movatnet also starts here, but is not included in this guide's distance or time.

⚠️ Safety Notes
- The steps and path behind the falls are wet and can be slippery; wear shoes with good grip.
- Winter ice or closures can affect the rear path, so check current conditions before an off-season visit.
- Keep children close near the fast-flowing river and on the wet rocks beside the falls.
