About This Hike
Vårlivarden rises to 387 metres between the Lutsi watercourse and Høgsfjorden, east of Hommersåk in Sandnes. The marked Myrland circuit is the clearest short option: Sandnes municipality lists it as 3.3 kilometres, about 1.5 hours and 280 metres of ascent. The steepest sections are on the south side, where wet rock or ice can make a modest local summit feel considerably harder. From the cairn, the view opens towards Høgsfjorden, Ryfylke and the Stavanger peninsula. Vårlivarden also connects to an extensive Maudland trail network with at least six starting points, woodland, open ground, lakes and several smaller viewpoints. That makes longer variations easy to create, but also makes accidental detours more likely. Decide whether you want the short Myrland circuit or a longer network walk before leaving the car, save the route offline and follow its waymarks. The municipality describes off-trail ground as difficult to cross, so visible side paths are not useful shortcuts.

Before You Go
For the short Myrland circuit, use the municipal route figures rather than older listings that combine it with longer alternatives. The area has a dense path network: decide whether you are doing the 3.3 km circuit or a longer Maudland walk, download the route, and stay on marked ground.

⚠️ Safety Notes
- The Myrland circuit has steep sections on its south side; assess them carefully in wet, icy or windy conditions
- This is a path hike, not a pram or wheelchair route; terrain away from the paths is notably demanding
- The summit is exposed. Bring an extra layer and do not rely on the view being available in low cloud
- The surrounding network has several route choices, so save an offline map and follow the marked route you selected
