About This Hike
Urkeegga is a demanding ridge circuit above Urke and Hjørundfjorden, normally walked from Myrsetra via Langseterdalen and Jenteskaret, then back over Maudekollen and Klokksegga. Ørsta municipality lists the marked route at 9.44 kilometres, 996 metres of ascent and about four hours and 55 minutes, with its high point at 1,029 metres. Start at Myrsetra and follow the signed, marked trail; the direction is a choice between starting gently and saving the steep section for the end, or taking the tough climb first. The ridge is well marked, but it is steep and airy, with a long descent that demands concentration. Egilbu is a useful rest stop with a shelter and hammock attachment, not a staffed refuge. The Hjørundfjord and Sunnmøre Alps views are outstanding, but this is not an easy scenic stroll: go only with settled weather, boots with good grip and enough daylight for the descent.

Before You Go
The stated 9.44 km, 996 m and four-hour-55-minute figures are for the marked Urkeegga circuit from Myrsetra. It is steep and airy even though it is well marked; do not replace the route with a direct ridge variation and expect the same figures. Myrsetra parking is about 3.3 km up Urkedalen from Urkevegen, while the alternative Haugemyrvegen start produces a different route plan.

⚠️ Safety Notes
- The steep forest approach and descent can be muddy and slippery after rain, so use boots with good grip and take care on the way down.
- Boulder terrain and the open ridge demand sure footing; wind, rain or fog make the route substantially more serious.
- The final descent is steep and can be punishing on tired knees, so allow enough daylight and time to complete the loop.
